Following the decision by Warwickshire County Council in 2011 that it could no longer afford to run the library service in Henley, a small group of volunteers got together to undertake the continued provision of library services.
Henley Community Library is a private, not-for-profit company with liability limited by guarantee up to a maximum of £10. It is applying for charity status. The organisation is properly constituted with a board of directors overseeing the strategic directions.
With a massive amount of hard work by a small band of volunteers, some grant funding from WCC and the JPC plus continued access to books from the Warwickshire Library Service, the library is now able to carry on.
The library was opened on April 20th 2012 by local MP, Nadhim Zahawi and we are working hard to establish it. Over time we hope to extend the services e.g. by using the in-house computers donated by WCC to provide basic computing skills for anyone who feels they may be missing out on what the digital world has to offer.
